Kópavogur Cricket Club, also known as Kópavogur Puffins, are owned by Abhishek Chauhan, who is the Chairman of a four-person Board who run the club. Formed in 2015, they are one of four clubs currently affiliated to the Icelandic Cricket Association (krikket.is), the national governing body for cricket in Iceland. This means that they play in domestic club competitions and their players are eligible for selection for the Icelandic national side. They will be taking part in various competitions during the 2021 season, which include the following:
Volcanic Ashes – a league-based, T20 indoor competition in which the Puffins are four-time winners, including in 2020.
Icelandic Premier League – a league-based outdoor T20 competition in which the Puffins were the 2020 champions.
Summer Solstice Sixes – a round-robin, one or two day, six-a-side outdoor tournament which the Puffins have never won but were runners up in 2020.
Sixty Ball Shootout – a league-based, T10 outdoor tournament in which the Puffins were the winners in 2020.
Ashes on Ice – a new, two-day outdoor Test match between the winners of the Icelandic Premier League and Sixty Ball Shootout.
The Puffins are managed by an enthusiastic Board, all of whom are volunteers. For the 2021 season, they are as follows:
Chairman – Abhishek Chauhan
Vice-chairman – Paresh Mandloi
Treasurer and accountant – Kundan Raj Mishra
Secretary – Mike Viney
The club’s captain for the 2021 season is David Cook. A four-person coaching team guides training sessions and the skills of the players. This is headed up by Nolan Williams, with support from Bala Kamallakharan, Riaan Dreyer and Mike Viney. Mike Viney is the specialist fitness coach.
